NCRIB Consouls Victims of Aleshinloye Market Fire
Reports, Jan 04, 2010 (Daily Champion/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers has commiserated with victims of the fire disaster that gutted Aleshinloye market in Ibadan, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
In a release signed by the President of the Council, Dr. Teslim Sanusi noted that the fire disaster was most regretful going by the monumental losses recorded by the victims at this festive season when most of the traders stock up their stores to take advantage of the season.
Sanusi said that the fire outbreak like many other fires that had gutted other large markets across the country has become a recurring event that should no longer be treated with lax hands.
"Whilst relevant government authorities should start putting in place fire and other disaster prevention strategies in major markets, the market associations and their members should utilize the services of insurance, which exists to return the insured back to their previous positions before a loss occurs"
The NCRIB President further underscored the roles of the insurance brokers whom he described as professional intermediaries with the capacity to educate clients, irrespective of their positions and station, on the rudiments of insurance and how to fully maximize its advantages.
As a further step, the NCRIB President said that the Western Area Committee of the Council, which jurisdiction the market falls have been advised to pay a visit to the market to console the victims and arrange to evaluate areas of risk management services that could lead to avoidance of similar painful occurrence in the future.
It was reported that the market which started about 4.30 pm last Monday razed several shops where shoes, textile materials and jewelries were sold.
