Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc. [Rough Notes]

Proquest LLC

Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc. maintains strong posture through its innovative programs & products, prudent underwriting and national reach.

For more than a half-century, Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc. (Meadowbrook) has met the needs of the evolving specialty insurance marketplace, with an emphasis on outstanding customer service, solid relationships and a long-term view of our often turbulent industry.

Meadowbrook operates six insurance carriers, which together are licensed on both an admitted and non-admitted basis in all 50 states. The insurance carrier operations comprise specialty/niche programs and product lines.

This specialty focus allows Meadowbrook to develop innovative, yet well-researched underwriting services and product expertise for underserved market segments that emphasize service, specialized knowledge and other value-based considerations.

Surmounting industry challenges.

Certainly, during the last year, the insurance industry faced a range of challenges. These included increasing loss costs, sustained softmarket pricing conditions, and a prolonged low interest rate environment.

"We continue to see signs that the pricing environment may be improving, as evidenced by our achievement of cumulative rate increases," commented Archie S. McIntyre, ARM - Meadowbrook's Senior Vice President of Business Development.

"Growing" forward.

Meadowbrook has developed a wide range of specialty insurance expertise across diverse product lines with strong distribution networks. This mix of business encompasses both admitted and surplus lines platforms. With a blend of program and specialty-focused product capabilities, this business model allows Meadowbrook to adapt to changing market conditions to best serve agents and their insureds.

"We are responsible and responsive insurance partners," Mr. McIntyre elaborated. "We react quickly to market cycles and loss activity so that programs and product lines remain stable while protecting the interests and market position of our agents and other constituents."

"One key differentiator is that Meadowbrook is one of the few specialty-focused program markets that offers workers' compensation as a key coverage line," Mr. McIntyre continued.

"With our advanced online processing systems, and tieredcarrier platform, we remain committed to writing workers' compensation as a heterogeneous product line and also on a homogeneous program-basis for niche industry classes."

"While we continue to view organic growth as a strategic priority, we actively review acquisition prospects and seek successful insurance teams that will enhance our business model and expand our product and service capabilities. Acquisitions are a way for us to attract talented insurance professionals who blend with our culture," added Mr. McIntyre.

Service focused.

In addition to Meadowbrook's concentration on specialty product lines and niche programs, Meadowbrook is also highly committed to maintaining its reputation as a responsive service provider.

Meadowbrook's 24/7 Customer Service Center is staffed with qualified professionals with an average of 15 years insurance experience, per staffmember. Each are licensed insurance agents in all states.

"Our Service Center handles an average of 66,000 incoming calls per year from policyholders, agents, brokers, claimants and medical providers," Mr. McIntyre stated. "Ninety percent of these calls are handled within 30 seconds... we track a number of metrics to maintain and constantly enhance our service capabilities."

Similarly, as the company's footprint has grown, Meadowbrook continues to add additional claims staff. This has reduced the case-load per adjuster while increasing the speed and efficiency in settling claims.

Meadowbrook also continues to enhance its loss control, technology and other service functions.

"We've applied significant resources and capital to our service operations," Mr. McIntyre explained.

Building on this strong base of specialty programs & products, services and people, Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc. remains a stable, adaptive, and creative member company within the Target Markets Program Administrators Association.
