May 09--A Macon man has been charged with false report of a crime, insurance fraud and second-degree arson, police said.
Kyle Reed, 23, of Upper River Road, was free Tuesday on a $15,450 bond, Bibb County Law Enforcement online records show. He was arrested Monday.
Reed is accused of falsely reporting to police that he was robbed Dec. 5 by an armed man. He called 911 at 1:13 a.m. from the CVS at Gray Highway and Shurling Drive to report the alleged robbery, a Macon police news release stated.
Shortly afterward, Macon-Bibb firefighters were dispatched to 2050 Clinton Road to put out a fully engulfed Chevy Silverado that belonged to Reed. The vehicles doors, tailgate and a spare tire had been removed before the fire, the release stated.
"Reed's account of the events contained several inconsistencies," the release stated. "A witness ... advised that Reed told him he and a friend had staged the robbery to cover up insurance fraud."
