Keep Obamacare in place, Pennsylvanians say in poll [Reading Eagle, Pa.]

Oct. 31--Despite calls by some in Washington to repeal it, Pennsylvanians favor keeping the federal Affordable Care Act in place, a recent poll shows.

The Franklin & Marshall College Poll released today shows that 50 percent of the 628 registered voters polled want to keep the act commonly known as Obamacare in place. Only 40 percent said they want the law repealed.

Forty-seven percent said they think the Affordable Care Act will make the health care system "much better" or "somewhat better" for most Americans, while 41 percent said it will make things "somewhat worse" or "much worse."

However, only 47 percent of those polled said they know "a great deal" or "a fair amount" about the health care law. Fifty-two percent said they know "only a little" or "nothing at all" about the law.

G. Terry Madonna, director of the Center for Politics and Public Affairs at Franklin & Marshall College, said the results aren't shocking.

"Most polls show people don't favor things about the Affordable Care Act, but they want to fix the parts they don't like, not repeal the law," he said.

On another health care-related issue, 64 percent of respondents said they favor expanding the number of Pennsylvanians who are eligible for the state's Medicaid program, and 72 percent support Gov. Tom Corbett's plan to expand the program using private insurance companies and work requirements.
