Express Scripts Is the First Company to Achieve URAC Accreditation for Workers’ Compensation and Property and Casualty Pharmacy Benefit Management Program
ST. LOUIS, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Express Scripts (Nasdaq: ESRX) announced it has earned URAC accreditation for Workers' Compensation Pharmacy Benefit Management under URAC's Pharmacy Quality Management program. Express Scripts is the first organization to have earned this URAC accreditation."As a leader in the pharmacy benefit management industry with a focus on quality of healthcare and drug safety, Express Scripts is proud to be the first to achieve URAC accreditation for Workers' Compensation PBM program," said Steve Miller, chief medical officer at Express Scripts. The URAC accreditation process demonstrates a commitment to quality services and serves as a framework to improve business processes through benchmarking organizations against nationally-recognized standards. These accreditations follow three other successful URAC accreditation efforts by Express Scripts. In 2007, Express Scripts was among the first organizations to earn URAC PBM accreditation. The following year, Express Scripts and CuraScript, an Express Scripts company, earned URAC accreditation for Mail Service Pharmacy and Specialty Pharmacy, respectively. This makes Express Scripts the only major PBM to achieve URAC accreditations in these four areas. "By applying for and receiving URAC accreditations, Express Scripts has demonstrated a commitment to quality healthcare," said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and chief executive officer. "Quality healthcare is crucial to our nation's welfare and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards and undergo rigorous evaluation by an independent accrediting body."URAC, an independent, nonprofit organization, is well-known as a leader in promoting healthcare quality through its accreditation and education programs. Offering a wide range of quality benchmarking programs and services that keep pace with the rapid changes in the healthcare system, URAC provides a symbol of excellence for organizations to validate their commitment to quality and accountability.
