Elkhart police say someone shot at officers

Oct. 05--A fleeing person fired a gun at Elkhart city police Friday following a traffic stop at the intersection of Hively and Stevens avenues. According to Elkhart police, at 8:04 p.m. officers pulled a vehicle over and during their investigation, a passenger of the vehicle fled the area on foot. Police did not say if the passenger was male or female. Officers chased the person into the area of 2710 Ridgewood Drive. Police said that the person fired a weapon. No officers were struck by the bullet and a search of the area was unsuccessful in locating the person.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Elkhart Police Department at 574-295-7070.

Crash reports

--Charles Reber, of Warsaw told Goshen police Friday that at 5:21 p.m. his vehicle was struck at the intersection of Main Street and Lincoln Avenue. The other vehicle involved left the area.

--An Elkhart man was injured during a one-vehicle crash Friday on U.S. 20 five miles southwest of Elkhart.

According to Elkhart County police, at 5:27 p.m. Friday, a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling east on U.S. 20 west of mile marker 88 left the south side of the road, went into the grass, re-entered the roadway, crossed both lanes of eastbound traffic, rolled over and collided with the center median.

The driver, identified by Elkhart County police as Luke Benn of Elkhart, was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with lacerations to his face and head. Benn was cited for driving without insurance, according to police.

Theft/burglary reports

--Nickole Plank told Goshen police Friday that two bicycles were stolen from the backyard of her home at 314 W. Douglas St., Goshen while she was at work at 11:25 a.m. A neighbor reported seeing four men take the bicycles and alerted police.

--Goshen police were called to McKee's at 1914 Elkhart Road at 1:34 a.m. Saturday in report to thefts from vehicles. Police discovered that four vehicles had their windows broken and items stolen from them between midnight and 1:30 a.m.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

--Anthony Ambrose told Goshen police that his car was damaged by a woman at 11:15 a.m. Friday at 700 N. Sixth St., Goshen.

--Annette Luke, of Albion, told Goshen police that someone damaged a rear window of her vehicle while she was traveling on Elkhart Road near C.R. 17 Friday at 3:15 p.m.

--Jonathan Hernandez of Goshen told Goshen police Friday that at 10 p.m. someone damaged his 2000 Audi TT while it was parked in his driveway at 615 Colorado St., Goshen.

Drug/alcohol arrests

--Pamela Crist, 45, of 408 E. Lincoln Ave, Apt. 5, Goshen was arrested at 7:29 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of E. Jefferson St., Goshen on a charge of public intoxication. She was taken to the Elkhart County jail.
