Commuter Bike Designer and Manufacturer Linus Bike Responds to an Article Regarding Road Safety for London Cyclists

PR Web

Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) November 21, 2012

On November 21, Linus Bike, a commuter bike developer, responds to an article published by the London Evening Standard regarding a demand for safer biking infrastructure for cyclists in London.

According to the London Evening Standard, “One survey by an insurer yesterday claimed that almost half of London cyclists have been knocked off their bikes at some point.” The London Evening Standard reports the rising dangers with the London infrastructure has been steadily increasing since 2008 and that the rise in cyclists should result in safer conditions.

China Reevers, a representative of commuter bike manufacturer Linus Bike, explains, “The road should be shared no matter what vehicle is being driven. From a walking pedestrian, to cyclist, to driver, road safety is not a matter of budget. It would be beneficial to all for the London infrastructure to follow through with road safety proposals.”

“Some proposals amount to an improvement for cyclists,” reports the London Evening Standard, “But overall, it’s hard to avoid the impression that [Transport for London]’s biggest concern is still drivers’ convenience — keeping traffic moving, even if that makes it less safe for others.”

According to the London Evening Standard, “[I]n 2010, cyclists made up 36 per cent of northbound morning rush hour traffic over Blackfriars Bridge — more than cars and taxis combined. They outnumbered cars on Chelsea, London, Southwark and Waterloo bridges too. Between 2000 and 2010, the number of cyclists on the capital’s major roads more than doubled; in the same period the number of cars in central London fell by more than a third.”

“As the population increases so should road safety. Cyclists should also know not to violate road safety rules and hope that vehicles see them. Accidents can happen and everyone using the road should be mindful of each other,” comments Reevers.

Linus Bike is a California-based bicycle manufacturer that specializes in creating vintage style city bikes and commuter bikes. Not simply a bicycle company, Linus Bike sells a complete line of accessories for the environmentally conscious and for those who have a fondness for European style bicycles and the great tradition of European cycling.
