CSU Institute For Palliative Care Announces Inaugural List of National Advisory Board Members

SAN MARCOS, Calif., Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- www.csupalliativecare.org. The California State University Institute for Palliative Care, located at Cal State San Marcos, announced its inaugural National Advisory Board members today. The National Advisory Board represents a cross-section of leaders in California and nationally in areas concerned with palliative-care, workforce development and education. Helen McNeal, executive director of the Institute said, "We look to these highly regarded leaders to help ensure that we keep a broad and informed perspective on all issues related to palliative care workforce development and to ensure we engage all the potential stakeholders."

The new advisory board members include:

  • Lupe Alonzo-Diaz, MPA – Deputy Director of the Healthcare Workforce Development Division at the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) for the State of California. 
  • Judy Citko, JD, - Executive Director of the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California, a statewide collaboration of healthcare providers, consumers, and regulatory agencies working to improve care of seriously-ill Californians. 
  • Rev. Eric J. Hall - President and CEO of the non-profit HealthCare Chaplaincy Network, a leader in the integration of spirituality and healthcare regardless of religion or beliefs.
  • Randall Krakauer, MD, FACP, FACR - VP, National Medical Director, Medical Strategy, AETNA. He is responsible for medical management planning and implementation nationally for Aetna Medicare members and is past chairman of the American College of Managed Care Medicine.
  • Linda Leavell RN, MPH, PhD. - Executive Director for National Patient Care Services (N.P.C.S.) for Kaiser Permanente and the leader of Kaiser's National Nursing Leadership Council (N.N.L.C.). 
  • Holli Martinez NP, ACHPN - Program Director of the University of Utah Palliative Care Service. She is an adjunct faculty member in the College of Nursing and is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Angelo McClain, PhD, LICSW - Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Social Workers and President of the National Association of Social Workers Foundation.
  • William D. Novelli, MA - Co-Chair of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC). He is a Professor in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and leads the Global Social Enterprise Initiative for the School. 
  • Michael W. Rabow, MD, FAAHPM - Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine, at the University of California, San Francisco. He directs the Symptom Management Service at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. 
  • Rameshsharma Ramloll, PhD - CEO/CTO of DeepSemaphore LLC, an E-Learning and Simulation Solutions company and an accomplished researcher in areas that include Computer Supported Cooperative Work, Human Computer Interaction, Assistive Technologies and Telemedicine.  
  • Michele Sacco, MS - Executive director for the Health Care Staffing Services Certification and Advanced Certification for Palliative Care programs at The Joint Commission.
  • Angelo Volandes MD, MPH - Faculty member in the General Medicine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is a pioneer in the creation and use of video decision aids to empower informed health care decision-making.

The first meeting of the National Advisory Board will be in mid January at California State University San Marcos, the home of the CSU Institute for Palliative Care.
