Business to help companies get a wrangle on technology [The Register-Herald, Beckley, W.Va.]

Oct. 06--If you've recently started your own business or your old computers at work are running slower than a herd of turtles, a new business may have just what you need.

Technology Management Solutions is run by Michael Cochran, an experienced technician, who says his company can do it all.

"We take care of business IT and all of their technologies," he said. "If it's a new business, we can take care of all of the design, the wiring and the networking. In an existing business we take care of all of the backups, data recovery, virus inoculation, and anything that you can think of.

"We're a one-stop shop for technology. We take on phone systems as well. It's endless.

"Anything you have, technology-wise, we can fix it or take care of it for you. We don't do web design, but we come in and lay out data pools and figure out what you need in your network closet like your switches, routers, PC requirements, and pretty much anything you would need catered to the size of your company. We can do local connections or if you have multiple sites that you need connected between. We can do fiber and we do it all."

Although he prefers to work with businesses, Cochran says he can fix personal computers as well. For companies that are a little nervous about getting rid of their in-house IT guy, Cochran says there are several benefits to outsourcing IT contracts to an outside firm.

"There's a lot of downtime with technology," he said. "With that downtime you're paying for benefits, salary, insurance and all sorts of other things. With Obamacare coming up, everything is going to get more expensive to have. It's going to get expensive to have an in-house technician. If you just have an emergency or problem, we take care of that on an hourly basis or however you need it.

"We're reasonable, price-wise," he added. "We're not out to take advantage of the customer. We're dependable. I'm already partnered with the YMCA and I've only been in business for three months. I've got the Y and several other big contracts, so I must be doing something right.

"We're also knowledgeable. We don't have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the problem is or how to fix that problem. We save the customer money that way."

Cochran says after working for years for the government, it was time to be his own boss.

"I've always wanted to start this business," he said. "I just never really had the opportunity. I've been in technology for around 12 years. I've worked for everybody except myself. I've been in the government and state aspects. I worked for WorkForce West Virginia forever. The up-and-down with the government told me that it was time to get out of that scene.

"There's uncertainty with this, but at least I'm in control of my own destiny here instead of someone in office passing a bill that shuts the department I'm in down."
