Berkeley College Online Instructors Teach ICD-10 Certification Preparation for Medical Coders and Prepare Surgical Processing Technicians for Certification Exam Online

PR Web

Clifton, New Jersey (PRWEB) March 06, 2014

Stephanie Williams, CRCST, CST, and Shelly C. Safian, PhD, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC-1, AHIMA-ICD-10 CMI PCS Trainer, AHIMA ICD-10 Ambassador, Berkeley College Online instructors, will teach the next online Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Exam Preparation and International Coding Diagnosis-10 (ICD-10) Certification Preparation courses, respectively, scheduled to begin on Monday, April 28. These non-credit exam preparation courses fulfill certain requirements of professionals in medical insurance billing and coding, and surgical processing technology fields. In contrast to self-paced online courses, these Berkeley College Online® courses are taught by experienced instructors.

“These courses were designed so that those professionals already in these fields can continue to work in their professions and have access to top-notch instructors with the course content needed to meet the emerging requirements of their careers,” said Sharon Goldstein, Campus Operating Officer, Berkeley College Online. Berkeley College offers 28 Bachelor and Associate degree programs online and was recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Best Online Colleges in the Bachelor Degree category.

Changes in mandates issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services require healthcare providers to complete the transition to using the ICD-10 system by October 1, 2014. Certified coders are required to complete a proficiency exam that updates their certification to ICD-10. This course utilizes the ICD-10 manual to provide an overview of the new structure and changes in diagnostic coding.

In addition, an increasing number of states – led by New Jersey and New York – now require surgical processing technicians to be certified. Based on the subject guidelines provided by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM), this course prepares surgical processing technicians for the CRCST exam.
