Aug. 30--Madison-based WEA Trust has been approved to offer health insurance to state health plan members in eastern Wisconsin starting next year.
It will be a choice available to state employees and retirees covered by the state of Wisconsin's Group Health Insurance Program in 24 counties. Members will choose during the October enrollment period. The Wisconsin Group Insurance Board approved WEA Trust to offer its health and dental benefit package as a Tier 1 plan.
The 24 counties the WEA Trust will be offered in are: Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Kenosha, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Marquette, Milwaukee, Oconto, Outagamie, Ozaukee, Racine, Shawano, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago.
Since 1970, WEA Trust has been a not-for-profit insurer for health and other insurance products to Wisconsin public schools. In 2008 and 2009, the WEA Trust health plan received the No. 1 score in the state -- and No. 2 nationwide in 2009 -- by the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems.
