Amanda Renteria Shares Her Vision with Voters at Selma Political Forum

SELMA, Calif., Sept. 26 -- The campaign of Amanda Renteria, a Democrat running for election in California's21st Congressional District, issued the following campaign news:

Selma voters had the opportunity this week to ask Amanda Renteria, candidate for California's21st District, about her vision to bring water and jobs to our Central Valley. The Wednesday forum, sponsored by Selma Aware, offered an opportunity for voters to ask questions from candidates wishing to get their vote.

Congressman David Valadao declined the invitation, according to Selma Aware, a non-partisan effort of Leadership Selma alumni that brings government and legislative information to the Selma community.

Renteria highlighted some of the key differences between her and her opponent. In Congress, for example, she promised to fight efforts to privatize Social Security and Medicare. Congressman Valadao wants to turn Medicare into a voucher program and force seniors to negotiate with insurance companies in the private market.

When asked about her plan to help Valley residents improve their job opportunities, Renteria emphasized the importance of education and training programs. Valadao's voting record on education includes, voting against education at every level, from Head Start, to K-12, to college, and even job training for veterans.

"We need sincere leadership," Renteria said. Renteria has been traveling up and down the district meeting with voters and listening to their concerns. On October 4th, she'll have the first one-on-one debate with Congressman Valadao.
