Additional Flu Shot Clinics in Roosevelt County

SANTA FE, N.M., Oct. 22 -- The New Mexico Department of Health issued the following news release:

The New Mexico Department of Health's Portales Public Health Office will be hosting a series of flu shot clinics in Roosevelt County at the following days and locations:

* Monday, October 27 @ 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

* Headstart, 112 N. Boston Ave., Portales, NM

* Monday, October 27 @ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

* Headstart, 112 N. Boston Ave., Portales, NM

* Tuesday, October 28 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

* Valley Furniture, 106 N. Main Ave., Portales, NM

* Wednesday, October 29 @ 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

* Rascal Ranch Daycare, 1900 S. Ave. I, Portales, NM

* Thursday, October 30 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

* Causey Fire Department, 116 Main St., Causey, NM

* Thursday, October 30 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

* Dora Senior Center, 227 Avenue A, Dora, NM

* Thursday, November 20 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

* Portales Senior Center, 421 N. Industrial Dr., Portales, NM

There is no charge to those attending the clinic, but everyone should bring their insurance card, including Medicaid or Medicare, with them.

Everyone six months of age and older should get a flu vaccine each flu season, especially people in the following groups because they are at high risk of having serious flu-related complications or because they live with or care for people at high risk for developing flu-related complications:

* Children 6 months through 4 years of age

* Pregnant women (any trimester)

* People age 50 and older

* People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease, and those who are immunocompromised

* People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities

* People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu

* American Indians and Alaskan Natives

* People who are morbidly obese

* Healthcare and early childhood personnel

People in these groups should also consider seeing their health care provider to be evaluated for antiviral medication if they develop flu symptoms.
