AccuRoute(R) 2.1 Document Routing Platform from Omtool Delivers Enhanced Support for Distributed Workgroups and End Users

SALEM, NH - January 30, 2006
Interoperability with Any Scan-Enabled Hardware Device and Many Electronic Information Systems Makes AccuRoute a Universal Platform for Document Routing
Omtool,(TM) Ltd. (Nasdaq: OMTL), a leading provider of document routing products and services, today introduced the latest version of its flagship product, AccuRoute. Designed to capture, process and distribute documents - either paper or electronic - AccuRoute 2.1 gives everyday business users the control to administer their documents from either their desktop or multifunction device (MFD) panel while seamlessly integrating with their business workflow.
Operational and industry issues are driving the need for document routing systems and range from the sheer number of times a document is copied (according to PriceWaterhouseCoopers, an average document is copied 19 times) through the course of doing business to compliance drivers such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA. Users need a simplified way to deal with their mixed-mode documents (paper combined with electronic documents) without a business workflow interruption.
"We have designed AccuRoute to deliver simplified, distributed document handling for common and daily use by end users and workgroups," said Bob Voelk, CEO and president of Omtool. "Working with virtually all multifunction devices and electronic information systems, we are positioned as the document routing hub that provides all points of connectivity within an enterprise for mixed-mode documents."
"The enhanced AccuRoute capabilities advance our mutual commitment to provide office customers with document routing technologies that simplify everyday business processes," said Rob Stewart, Office Group Vice President of worldwide marketing, Xerox Corporation. "By combining Xerox WorkCentre(R) Pro advanced multifunction systems with Omtool AccuRoute, we're working together to provide enterprise-class document handling solutions to companies around the globe."
"Today, the enterprise content management market is moving toward distributed workgroup enablement," said Toby Bell, Research Director, Gartner, Inc. He continued, "The office document solutions provider that delivers a distributed document routing product and provides enterprise savings by supplementing or replacing centralized scanning solutions where appropriate will be positioned for long-term growth."
To effectively provide a complete document routing solution, the technology must take into account how documents are captured, processed and distributed. Omtool continues to make investments in the AccuRoute platform which supports all major MFDs that scan or capture documents and send or transfer them onto the network, including those devices from Xerox, HP, Lexmark, and Ricoh, among others.
AccuRoute 2.1 provides a number of benefits including:
-
Allows users to capture, process and distribute documents from their desktop or MFD panel helping them save time and remain productive as they handle mixed-mode documents though the course of their daily business workflow.
-
Provides users with walk-up access to AccuRoute at devices that are Java-enabled.
-
Optimizes and improves the billing process by integrating with cost recovery systems from companies such as Billback and Control Systems. The integration of AccuRoute, the billing systems and the MFDs allows users to enter distribution directions ("embedded directives") and billing codes all from the same interface - ensuring precision in both billing and document routing.
-
Improves document compression capability for enhanced processing and distribution. Based on Adobe(R) compression algorithms, AccuRoute 2.1 compresses documents to approximately one-third the size of other commercially available solutions and saves businesses significant storage and network bandwidth costs.
-
Allows users to simultaneously distribute documents to multiple systems or recipients in multiple formats with a single action.
"AccuRoute is an IT asset that enables Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson & Graham LLP to unite the world of paper with our electronic records," said Bob Musial, director of Information Systems, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson & Graham LLP. "We applaud Omtool's continued investment in technology and expansion capabilities that will provide law firms like ours greater ability to respond to our end users' needs."
