SBLI Executive to Serve as Chair of ADA North Shore and New England Classic Tour de Cure

SBLI Executive to Serve as Chair of ADA North Shore and New England Classic Tour de Cure Company sponsors Virtual Wellness Village for the American Diabetes Association®

Woburn, MA, July 22, 2020 – SBLI (The Savings Bank Mutual Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts) is proud to announce that Greg Melton, Assistant Vice President of Product Marketing, will serve as chair of the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) North Shore Tour de Cure and New England Classic Tour de Cure events. Now in its fifth year sponsoring these events, SBLI has taken its support a step further, demonstrating the company’s leadership in the business community and commitment to serving families.

“As someone who has lived with type 1 diabetes for most of my life, I have great passion for this cause and the work of the ADA. To chair the Tour de Cure as part of the SBLI community is an honor and I am committed to raising awareness and funds for research through these efforts. I am excited to participate with my family and hope other companies and individuals will join us,” said Greg Melton.

In addition to chairing the events, SBLI will sponsor the Virtual Wellness Village and partner with the ADA to build community engagement through social media and provide informative content that motivates people to stay active and healthy - especially important during this unprecedented time. According to the ADA, 1 in 10 Americans has diabetes, and 1 in 3 has pre-diabetes. Every 21 seconds, someone in the United States is diagnosed.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with SBLI on the Virtual Wellness Village,” said Susan Sarro, ADA New England Executive Director. “The funds we raise are critically important to the people we serve, so we are excited that technology and social media will allow us to continue to provide an event virtually for our strong community of supporters while keeping their health and safety at the forefront. This virtual event is another great example of how the ADA remains connected to the people of New England!”

This year, to protect the people it serves, the North Shore and New England Classic Tour de Cure events will be held virtually on Sunday, August 16th, allowing individuals and companies to ride, run or walk to continue to support the ADA and raise funds for lifesaving research, education, and advocacy.

The ADA will continue to prioritize the health and safety of participants, volunteers, sponsors, employees, community partners, and friends above all else. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classifies those living with diabetes as at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. The organization will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19, under the guidance of the CDC, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health authorities, and will provide updates to the community.

To register for the North Shore Tour de Cure or the New England Classic, go to www.diabetes.org/northshoretour or www.diabetes.org/newenglandclassic. For more information on event specifics, please contact Tim Wilson at 617-482-4580, ext. 3456 or twilson@diabetes.org.
