I called the office to let them know I was close enough to make the scene from the north. While still enroute, I heard KYW report that two officers were shot, then three, then four. When I arrived, police officers were still running. You could still hear the volley of shots, but it wasn’t clear if it was the police or a suspect. Later, I found it out it was the suspect. The police officers in my photo were walking away from the scene but were still within the perimeter. At about this point, we had learned six officers had been shot. It took a toll on everybody. All six police officers recovered from their injuries. It was a chance to step back in time. They didn’t use fancy fishing gear to find the fish. The boat doesn’t have a motor. They row the boat out to drop the net and circle back to the river bank. Another group pulls the net in, hoping to catch the shad during their spring run. It was hard work with many times nothing to show for the effort. A wet spring made it even more of a challenge.
