Democratic Health Leaders Urge Reversal of Trump Administration's Latest Attack on the Affordable Care Act

The lawmakers have opposed these dangerous changes at every turn

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA), House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA), Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA), and Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) released the following statement condemning the Trump Administration's finalized rule for the annual Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for 2022:

"With these changes, the Trump Administration is making it even harder for millions of people to access affordable health care, leaving more Americans uninsured, and further raising out-of-pocket costs. As COVID-19 continues to spread and claim lives across the nation, there couldn't be a worse time to make it even more challenging for Americans to get the quality health care they deserve. These changes will expose more families to potentially insurmountable medical debt and gut funding for measures that help Americans find the coverage they need. At every turn, the Trump Administration has tried to dismantle Americans' health care, and now, in one of their final moves, they are hampering the Biden Administration's ability to rebuild.

"The anti-health care legacy Donald Trump will leave is shameful, but we will work together with the incoming Biden Administration to swiftly reverse this damage and make quality health care more affordable and accessible for every person in this country."

The lawmakers previously opposed this proposed rule in December 2020, and voiced strong opposition to similar changes that were approved as a part of a section 1332 waiver in Georgia.
