July 06--A Woodruff man faces three felony DUI charges after a two-vehicle crash injured three people.
Michael Ray Quinn, 55, of 420 Chicken Foot Creek Road, faces three counts of felony driving under the influence causing great bodily injury, one count of open container of liquor in a vehicle and one count of driving with no proof of insurance.
According to a collision report, at 8:32 p.m.June 26, a 2004 Jeep Wrangler traveling north on S.C. Highway 417 crossed the center line and struck a 2013 Lexus SUV traveling south on the same road.
A passenger in the Jeep sustained a collapsed lung during the wreck, the incident report states. The impact also fractured the leg of a passenger in the Lexus and gave another a concussion.
At Spartanburg Medical Center, the Jeep's passenger told troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol that the Jeep's driver had been drinking moonshine the entire day and had a plastic bottle of liquor in the vehicle at the time of the wreck, the report states. The passenger said he asked the driver to stop the vehicle just before the collision because he was driving erratically.
Troopers found a plastic bottle filled with liquid that smelled strongly of alcohol, two butane lighters and a pipe in the Jeep, according to the report. Troopers said they also smelled alcohol on the driver's breath.
