Women’s care company reaches agreement with Anthem after dropping insurer for months
The company, which oversees 30 practices from Franklin to Nags Head, including more than 20 in South Hampton Roads, announced Monday it reached an agreement with the insurer. The two had cut ties in early November after failed financial talks, sending many patients out to find new doctors.

"We are happy to welcome Anthem back to our partnership network and to continue to be able to provide quality care to our patients."
Sterling and an Anthem spokesman both declined Monday to discuss the details of the agreement.
In November, Mid-Atlantic stopped covering Anthem patients in-network, citing years of failed negotiations. At the time, Sterling said the decision came after Anthem made clear there would be no cost-of-living increases.
An Anthem spokesman said in October that Mid-Atlantic "continually demanded excessive reimbursement increases, which would have been on top of fees that are already higher than those accepted by all other participating OB/GYNs in the state."
Since November, other local women's care centers have seen an uptick in patients.
Bon Secours also saw an "upsurge" of patients with Anthem insurance, said spokeswoman Lynne Zultansky.
"I think you can probably make a safe assumption that the uptick in new patients ... was probably attributed to insurance changes," she said.
Sentara spokesman Dale Gauding said officials there saw "a definite bump in patient volumes" in recent months.
Seeing increases is the "general consensus from family care providers," he said. But, Gauding added, there's a good chance the new patients could return to their original doctors with "established relationships" at Mid-Atlantic.
