Apr. 22--SCOTLAND -- A headon collision Tuesday in Scotland landed two people in the hospital, with one of them charged with drunken driving.
State police at Troop D in Danielson and local emergency services responded to the collision Tuesday night near 359 Huntington Road/Route 14. Both operators needed to be extracted from their vehicles and one required transportation via Life Star helicopter.
State police reported Melissa Carducci- Brooks, 41, of Coventry, was driving west on Route 14 when her vehicle changed lanes, directly in front of another car driven by Dana Barrow Jr., 63, of Scotland.
The vehicles then collided head- on, according to police.
Barrow was flown to Hartford Hospital via the Life Star while Carducci- Brooks was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich via ambulance, police said.
Police found Carducci-Brooks to be operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol and without insurance, according to police.
She was charged with failure to maintain proper lane, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to have minimum insurance on a motor vehicle. She will appear in Danielson Superior CourtJune 2.
