Welcoming in the new roaring twenties

Richmond Register (KY)

Dec. 30--Those who wish to welcome in the new year with roaring 20s flair can do so New Years Eve at Churchill's in Berea thanks to Hospice Care Plus.

Churchill's will be hosting the first ever 'Roaring 20s New Year's Eve Party' Tuesday starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased online by going to 'Roaring 20s New Year's Eve Party' on Facebook and following the link or by purchasing tickets at the door of the event.

According to Brenna Wallhausser, director of public relations, and Chasity Coleman, director of development, "every penny" that is raised with this event will go back to Hospice Care Plus. They explained that the proceeds from the multiple fundraisers Hospice holds every year will help to make sure that Hospice can keep providing "all care regardless of ability to pay."

Wallhausser said that is one thing that makes Hospice Care Plus unique, they never turn someone away from services. She explained some programs, such as hospice home care and inpatient care at the Compassionate Care Center, are partially funded by insurance, but overflow past what insurance pays, as well as programs not funded by insurance such as the palliative care program and the bereavement program, are all funded by fundraisers such as the Roaring 20s New Year's Eve Party.

Wallhauser explained they came up with the 20s theme many months ago, August or September, when they first started planning the event. She said the idea for 20s themed parties has become quite popular because the new year will be 2020. In order to keep with the theme, Churchill's will be done up with black and gold new years decorations and guests are prompted to wear their best 20s attire.

For those that enjoy a good photo opportunity, there will be a 20s styled settee couch to take pictures on along with an assortment of 20s themed props. Todd Chaney will be the DJ for the event and will be playing a mixture between contemporary music and 20s themed music. There will also be a live streaming of the Times Square ball drop.

Mother and Daughters Catering will be catering the event with heavy hors d'oeuvres such as shrimp and grits, spinach and artichoke dip with chips and bourbon meatballs. There will also be a cash bar and every table at the event with have a complimentary bottle of wine.

Wallhauser explained that the bartenders have been trained on how to know when to stop serving someone and when to take keys. She also explained that they have contacted the local Berea taxi services and they will be available to anyone who needs a safe ride home. She also noted that Berea now has the driving service Uber which widens the availability of rides home for those who may be a little too tipsy to drive themselves.

They believe expect there will be around 80 to 90 guests.

According to Wallhauser, Coleman has been good at choosing events to help fit a gap in the community. She explained that there were not a lot of fun options locally on New Years Eve.

"We're excited because of the fundraising potential, but also just because it seems like a good time," Wallhauser said.
