Weight-loss drugs fuel big losses for Mass. insurers
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the state’ s top insurer with 3 million members, said Friday it recorded an operating loss of $400.4 million for 2024, the largest in its history. Costs for five of those drugs— Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Zepbound, and Saxenda— topped $300 million for Blue Cross alone last year, more than double what it spent in 2023.
