Watch: Gov. Gavin Newsom gives update on COVID-19, California wildfires
Sacramento Bee (CA)
Sep. 21--Gov. Gavin Newsom gave an update on the coronavirus pandemic and California wildfires in a press conference Monday.
You can watch a recording of the press conference here:
Newsom is likely to be asked about a strike team report on failings at the state's Employment Development Department that his administration released Saturday night. The report found that EDD's backlog of unemployment insurance claims is growing by at least 10,000 per day during the COVID-fueled recession.
The department will not accept new unemployment claims over the next two weeks while the department works on the backlog and adopts new fraud prevention technology, the Newsom administration announced Saturday night.
