UPDATE: Girl, 1, dies after crash on U.S. 67

San Angelo Standard-Times (TX)

March 23--A one-vehicle crash on U.S. 67 resulted in the death of a 1-year-old girl, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred about 2 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 67 and Harriet Road, said DPS Sgt. Justin Baker.

Mayra A. Lora, 20, the child's mother, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup north on U.S. 67 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved into the southbound lane.

The driver overcorrected into the northbound lane, and the vehicle rolled over numerous times before coming to rest in a bar ditch.

The girl and a 3-year-old boy were ejected from the vehicle. The boy suffered injuries and was taken to Shannon Medical Center with the girl, who was later pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Susan Werner.

The mother was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

Baker said there were two child seats in the vehicle, and the children were improperly secured.

The weather was clear and road conditions were dry.
