Trump renews threat to try to fire Fed Chair Powell in new name-calling attack

Powell has said the Fed wants to see how Trump's tariffs impact inflation and the economy.
Trump has criticized Powell for not cutting rates including name calling and insults in social media posts and public comments.
Trump went after Powell again Friday in a social media post and renewed talk of trying to fire the Fed chair.
Powell was appointed Fed chair by Trump in 2017 and was reappointed by Biden in 2022. His latest term next year.
Trump previously talked about firing Powell. A recent Supreme Court ruling carved out the Fed role from Trump's powers to fire appointed officials.
Trump called Powell "a dumb guy", "Trump hater" and "complete moron." in his social media missive.
"We have virtually No Inflation, our Economy is doing really well, and will soon be doing, with the tremendous Tariff Income coming in, and Factories being built all over the Country, better than it has ever done before. If he was concerned about Inflation or anything else, then all he has to do is bring the Rate down, so we can benefit on Interest Costs, and raise it in the future when and if these "other elements" happen (which I doubt they will!)," Trump said in a social media post.
"Maybe, just maybe, I'll have to change my mind about firing him? But regardless, his Term ends shortly," Trump continued.
Powell said earlier this week he ignores Trump's criticism and is focused on the economy.
He did say the Fed is concerned about inflation increasing later in the year as Trump's tariffs impact prices and supply chains.
Powell's term ends next year and the bank chief said he plans on serving out his term.
