Travelers Provides Team Rubicon $1 Million Grant to Fund Disaster Response Training Program

Insurance Weekly News

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Weekly News -- The Travelers Foundation, the charitable arm of The Travelers Companies, Inc., (NYSE: TRV) announced it will provide a $1 million grant to fund a new disaster response outreach program for Team Rubicon. This nonprofit organization unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams after disasters, all while providing veterans with a new sense of purpose, community and identity.

The grant will fund the creation of a new Mobile Engagement Team that will travel across the U.S. to provide large-scale training events, recruit volunteers and establish relationships with state and local emergency management agencies.

"As an insurer, we see the devastating effects that severe weather can have on homes, businesses and entire neighborhoods," said Marlene Ibsen, CEO and President of the Travelers Foundation. "Because of Team Rubicon's unique model and mission, supporting its Mobile Engagement Team was an easy choice for us. This new initiative will better position Team Rubicon to help communities recover from disasters around the country."

Travelers will be the exclusive insurance partner of the initiative and will work with Team Rubicon over three years to implement the new program. The partnership will also expand Travelers' employee volunteer and disaster-response training opportunities.

Team Rubicon received the inaugural Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award in June 2015, which included a $100,000 grant to support its relief efforts.

"After a disaster, it is inspiring to see how communities come together to support one another. With Travelers' support, Team Rubicon will be able to bring valuable disaster response training and engagement opportunities to vulnerable populations and to our member base of more than 35,000 veterans and first responders via this Mobile Engagement Team," said Jake Wood, CEO and Co-Founder of Team Rubicon. "Ultimately, Travelers is not only helping us better prepare for the next disaster, but helping communities across the country become more resilient." About Travelers The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) is a leading provider of property casualty insurance for auto, home and business. A component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, Travelers has approximately 30,000 employees and generated revenues of approximately $27 billion in 2015.
