Rate Increase Expectations
Markets priced in a 92 percent probability of a 25 basis point hike, according to Yahoo Finance. The adjustment would push the target range to between 3.75 percent and 4.00 percent. This marks the first central bank rate increase since 2023.
The policy update arrived just one day after the
Policymakers maintained the previous 3.50 percent to 3.75 percent range for five consecutive meetings. Three committee members had advocated for a hike in July. Strong employment data and persistent inflation drove the anticipated September change.
Market Repositioning
Digital asset investors reduced their holdings in major tokens. Research from Talos indicated a 28 percent net buying preference for stablecoins before the meeting, CoinDesk reported. The firm noted that buying conviction for Bitcoin dropped to 3 percent.
Interest in Ethereum similarly fell to 9 percent.
