House Takes First Step to Provide Obamacare Relief

Today, the House of Representatives passed a budget resolution that sets the stage to repeal Obamacare through the reconciliation process and replace the failed law with patient-centered reforms.

Congressman Tiberi released the following statement:

"Obamacare is riddled with broken promises and it is causing real pain for Americans across the country. Patients are losing access to their doctors and experiencing the sticker shock of rising premiums and deductibles. In Ohio, almost a third of our counties will have only one insurer participating in the exchanges this year, meaning consumers may have only one expensive option that won't even accept their doctor. Today's vote puts the wheels in motion for Republicans to provide immediate relief from the disastrous consequences of Obamacare and implement reforms to lower costs, increase choices and expand access to high-quality care.

"We won't make the same mistakes Democrats made when they shoved a giant bill through Congress without knowing what was in it. That is why we must take a step-by-step approach to successfully transition to a patient-centered system that is better for all Americans and ensures they aren't left empty-handed without coverage."

House Republicans unveiled a health care blueprint in June 2016 with priorities for reform that include:

* Moving health care decisions away from Washington and to where they belong: with patients, their families, and their doctors.

* Giving patients the right tools, like Health Savings Accounts, to make their health insurance more portable and affordable.

* Breaking down barriers that restrict choice and prevent Americans from picking the plan that is best for them and their family.

* Providing coverage protections and peace of mind for all Americans--regardless of age, income, medical conditions, or circumstances.

* Empowering small businesses to provide employees with the kind of affordable health coverage that meets their needs.

During today's floor debate, Rep. Tiberi highlighted the rising costs and limited choices in Ohio under Obamacare and the specific solutions Republicans are championing to provide a better way for health care reform.
