HEALTH CARE

Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Portsmouth, has opened The Cartilage Center facilities at its locations in Portsmouth as well as York and Wells in Maine. Led by Dr. Tyler Welch, the center provides treatments to resolve hip, knee, shoulder and other joint pain, including early arthritis.

Dr. William Sutherland of Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Portsmouth, recently received his training and certification in the Fuse Implant Procedure, a spine fusion technique.

Families First Health & Support Center, Portsmouth, has received a $75,000 grant from the Hearst Foundation designated to help it provide comprehensive health services, including prenatal, primary and behavioral health care and addiction treatment for disadvantaged individuals and families.

The Courville at Manchester, one of four Courville Communities in southern New Hampshire, has been deemed deficiencyfree following a survey by the NH Department of Health and Human Services. Long-term care centers, such as the 82-bed Courville at Manchester, are subject to annual, impromptu surveys under regulations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Hampshire has recognized Manchester Community Health Center for increasing its percentage of infants who were breastfed from 17 percent to 82 percent in 2016. Sandra Bryant, a licensed dietitian/ nutritionist who offers prenatal and post-partum lactation services to patients at MCHC, credited the improvement to a "wonderful breastfeeding support team, including OB providers, midwives, lactation professionals, medical assistants, home visiting nurses and our neighbor Elliot Hospital.

REAL ESTATE

KeyPoint Partners, Burlington, Mass., has been awarded the contract to manage and lease Lorden Plaza in Milford, a 148,000-square-foot shopping center on Route 101A. The center is anchored by Shaw's Supermarket and Rite Aid Pharmacy. Keypoint's vice president of leasing, Don Mace, is handling leasing for the assignment.

United Property Holdings LLC of Manchester has purchased the 2,470-square-foot office building at 1892 Elm St., Manchester, NH. Tom Dickson, commercial real estate agent for Stebbins Commercial Properties Inc., represented the Owner, Carol Williams Family Trust of Bedford. Michael Caouette of Keller Williams Realty Metro represented the buyer. According to the Registry of Deeds, the sale price was $345,000.

BUSINESS SERVICES

Direct marketing firm Polaris Direct, Hooksett, has added PostaLink, what it says is a more robust multi-channel solution that gives marketers the ability to seamlessly combine direct mail with mail tracking, call tracking and online ad follow-up. Through PostaLink, clients have the ability to log on to a central portal to track the status of their campaigns, according to Polaris.

ACCOUNTING

Mason + Rich has added James D Gaddis, Karyn Richardson and Kelcey O'Neill to its staff. Gaddis is a senior tax specialist, Richardson is a new senior CPA and O'Neill, director of first impressions.

TECHNOLOGY

The U.S. Army has awarded BAE Systems a seven-year contract worth up to $384 million to provide specialized weapon sights that improve soldiers' ability to quickly and accurately engage targets at extended ranges. The sights are designed specifically for machine gunners and operate during daylight, darkness, adverse weather and obscured visibility conditions, BAE said.

The University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory has launched its Internet of Things (loT) IP Testing Services. Created to offer custom Internet Protocol test services for loT products specific to home environments, industrial networks, smart cities and connected cars, the group is aimed at helping improve loT interoperability, reducing time-to-market and enhancing the customer experience.

NONPROFITS

International Cars Ltd. and its auto dealerships, including Honda North, Dover Honda, Dover Chevrolet, Audi, Porsche and Mitsubishi of Stratham, and the ICL Used Car Center, recently presented a $10,000 donation to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center of Haverhill, Mass.

CFRE International has recently named Patricia "Patty" Farmer of Jaffrey as a certified fund-raising executive (CFRE). Farmer is the campaign manager for the Keene Public Library's "Next Chapter" capital campaign and joins 24 other CFREs in New Hampshire.

In recognition of her commitment to the community, Nashua resident Lori DeLeo has been selected by Citizens Bank to receive its annual Credo Champion for Community Award. As part of the award, Citizens Bank contributed $2,500 to DeLeo's charity of choice, the Anne-Marie House, a transitional housing program, to receive the $2,500 donation. Cindy Rybczyk has joined Breathe New Hampshire as its new director of philanthropy and volunteers. Previously, Rybczyk worked for 15 years in fundraising and event management at other Granite State nonprofits, including the American Heart Association and the Alzheimer's Association.

Cindy Gaffney of Manchester, community relations manager at Child and Family Services of NH, recently was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Manchester. She was honored for her contributions to the club and the community, from civic to charitable.

Franklin Savings Bank recently donated a residential property in Warren to Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity. Built in 1885, the dwelling features 2,640 square feet of living space with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity will use the proceeds of the property's sale to fund other projects to include construction of a new home as part of its Home Build program.

Manchester-based The Way Home, which helps families and individuals obtain safe, affordable housing and offers supportive services to nurture independence, and advocate for greater opportunity, has received a $5,000 donation from Bank of New Hampshire to support its financial literacy education program.

The YMCA of Greater Nashua has announced newly elected members of its board of directors: Rich Hillman, product manager, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics; Deane Navaroli, principal, Harrington and Reeves; Gloria Sevitella, regional vice president, Farley White Management Company; and Kyle Schneck, vice president of commercial lending, Merrimack County Savings Bank.

Mary Lou Aleskie has been named director of the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College. She previously worked as director of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, Conn.

With more than $1.3 million in private donations from local businesses, the Belknap Economic Development Council has officially launched its public capital campaign to fund its Colonial Theater reconstruction project in downtown Laconia.

The Currier Museum of Art has been awarded a $15,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the upcoming exhibition, "Soo Sunny Park: BioLath." In BioLath, New Hampshire artist Park will create a new, site-specific work that will transform the museum's Putnam Gallery into an immersive sculptural environment that explores the effect of light on visual perception. The exhibition will be on view at the museum from Feb. 25 through Aug. 6.

The YMCA of the Seacoast is pleased to announce that Michael Curtis has been named director of the Portsmouth branch. Curtis previously was vice principal at White Mountains High School in Jefferson.

Attorney Ronald D. Ciotti, a Concordbased partner at Hinckley Allen, has been named the 2017 president of the Associated General Contractors of New Hampshire. Ciotti is the first attorney to be named president in the AGC of New Hampshire's history.

CONSTRUCTION

Brookstone Builders Inc., Manchester, has been selected to perform a retail tenant-space improvement project at the Northway Plaza Shopping Center in North Conway. The scope-of-work includes a new storefront, construction of interior demising walls, as well as some electrical and demolition work. Mark Gemmiti will serve as Brookstone's project manager.

Michael P. Donahue, president of Aries Engineering Inc., Concord, has announced plans to retire as an officer and director of the firm on Dec. 31. Donahue, who has worked at the firm for nearly 30 years, said, "It's time to move on and transfer Aries' leadership to a new generation. I look forward to working with Aries' seasoned management team, Katy Ward, George Holt and Peter McGlew during the transition period and to being available as an advisor after retiring as president."

GOVERNMENT

Hinsdale selectmen recently approved a "Complete Streets" policy. The Southwest Region Planning Commission assisted the town in developing the policy as part of its work with the Partnerships to Improve Community Health initiative, a collaboration of Healthy Monadnock partners funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Hinsdale is the fourth town in the Monadnock Region to adopt a Complete Streets policy; Keene, Swanzey and Troy also have Complete Streets policies in place.

Attorney Michael J. Schowalter Jr., has joined the firm of Rath, Young and Pignatelli, as an associate. Prior to joining the firm, he was program director for the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice.

Jeff Tagliaferro has joined the NH Fisher Cats as vice president of sales. Most recently, Tagliaferro spent over four years as a senior account executive with NH Motor Speedway, earning the honor of "Salesperson of the Year" in 2013.

Lane to head independent Red Rivers Theatres

Angie Lane of Concord has been named executive director of Red River Theatres. Lane, who was events and marketing manager at the nonprofit theater for three years, most recently worked in the development department at NH Public Radio.

Lane has been an active Concord community leader over the past 10 years, including being named "Young Professional of the Year" in 2016 by the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of GoodLife Programs & Activities, Intown Concord and Concord Young Professionals Network, all in Concord.
