The American Journal of Accountable Care® Names Dennis P. Scanlon, PhD, Editor-in-Chief

Business Wire

Noted health policy researcher Dennis P. Scanlon, PhD, heads Center for Health Care and Policy Research at Pennsylvania State University

CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The American Journal of Accountable Care® (AJAC) is pleased to announce that Dennis P. Scanlon, PhD, previously associate editor of the Journal, is editor-in-chief as of the March 2019 issue.

Scanlon is a distinguished professor of health policy and administration and director of the Center for Health Care and Policy Research at Pennsylvania State University. He has been the associate editor of AJAC since 2015.

His research focuses on understanding the role of measurement, incentives, quality improvement, and individual and organizational behavior change for improving important healthcare outcomes, including clinical quality, patient experience, and economic efficiency.

“Dr. Scanlon is the perfect leader for AJAC to lead and guide the discussions of value-based care and other important healthcare research that takes place within our pages,” said Michael J. Hennessy Jr., president of MJH Associates, Inc., parent company of AJMC®. “We’re thrilled that he has accepted this role and look forward to working with him in the years ahead.”

“AJAC fits a niche in the fast-paced world of healthcare, where change is constant but often times the results of change—and the associated lessons—are not reported in a timely fashion. AJAC is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between scientific evidence, policy making, and clinical and managerial practice, allowing a venue for reporting of results and experiences with changes to payment models, care delivery redesign, and other innovations designed to bring more value for healthcare dollars spent,” said Scanlon. “I look forward to guiding AJAC and to bringing valuable content to its readers.”

Scanlon has served on several national, local, and international advisory panels for organizations such as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Quality Forum, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the European Commission. He has served as principal or co-investigator on a number of large research projects funded by sponsors such as the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Commonwealth Fund. He has published more than 100 articles, book chapters, and reports and is frequently invited to speak on health policy topics.
