Tax Lawyer Christopher S. McLoon Joins Nutter as Partner

BOSTON, Massachusetts, July 22 -- Nutter McClennen and Fish, a law firm, issued the following news release:

Nutter announced today the arrival of Christopher S. McLoon, who joins the firm as a partner in its Tax Department. McLoon focuses his practice on providing corporate and partnership tax counsel to businesses and real estate developers. In addition, McLoon's fund formation experience has allowed him to be a leader in advising clients on structuring and forming Qualified Opportunity Funds, which were a product of the 2017 tax reform legislation.

Drawing on his expertise in tax law, as well as in partnerships and limited liability companies, McLoon advises clients in structuring business transactions to achieve optimal business and tax results. In doing so, he focuses on communicating clear solutions to complex issues.

McLoon represents businesses of all sizes and across several industries. He also represents developers on real estate development projects that have included hotel, office, retail, and residential units. He often counsels clients on low income tax credits, historic tax credits, and new markets tax credits.

Prior to joining Nutter, McLoon was a shareholder and chair of the Affordable Housing and Community Development practice group at a general practice law firm in Portland, Maine. Before joining that firm, he was the chair of the Tax Practice Group at a regional law firm.

McLoon is a member of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association, where he is a John S. Nolan Fellow and chaired the Section 708 Partnership Terminations Subcommittee. He co-chaired the committees that drafted the Maine Uniform Partnership Act, the Maine Uniform Limited Partnership Act of 2007, and the Maine Limited Liability Company Act.

A leader in tax and corporate law, McLoon is recognized by Chambers USA and Best Lawyers, receiving Best Lawyers' 2016 "Lawyer of the Year" distinction in the category of "Business Organizations (including LLCs and Partnerships)" in Portland. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Vermont Law School, his LL.M. from New York University School of Law, and his B.S. from the University of Maine.
