‘Suspicious’ fire at home of Minnesota Trump supporter sparks investigation

A “suspicious” fire sparked at a Minnesota home belonging to a vocal supporter of President Trump has prompted an investigation.

The detached garage and each of the vehicles inside were completely destroyed in the blaze, set around 4 a.m. Wednesday. Brooklyn Center police Cmdr. Garett Flesland told the Pioneer Press authorities suspect the motive is political given the home was left spray-painted with “Biden 2020,” “BLM” and the circle-A anarchy symbol

A “fairly large Trump 2020” sign was also destroyed in the incident, he said.

“This fire is considered suspicious and our investigation remains extremely active,” Flesland said.

Firefighters responded to home in Brooklyn Center in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday. They managed to extinguish the flames coming from the garage before they spread too far into the home itself, which only faced minimal damage.

The homeowner, Deana Molla, wrote on her Facebook page that her family was “targeted by BLM/Antifa," according to the Press.

“We woke up to a loud explosion, and saw that our camper was on fire, along with both of Dennis' trucks, his garage and our entire back yard,” she wrote.

“Thank God our main house is safe. We are safe. Our children are safe.”

In addition to their vehicles and a camper, the homeowner also lost thousands of dollars in tools that were inside garage, according to a GoFundMe started in support of the family. The fundraiser has netted more than $10,000 as of Friday morning.

No injuries were reported in connection to the fire, according to authorities. First responders were also able to save three dogs and five puppies from inside the home.

The Minnesota Arson Reward Project is offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the identification of the suspect or suspects responsible behind the fire. Anyone with tips are asked to call 1-800-723-2020.
