Suspicious fire at community activist office in Chula Vista
San Diego Union-Tribune (CA)
Nov. 11--A fire that heavily damaged a community activist organization's Chula Vista office was being investigated on Saturday as suspicious, authorities said.
The blaze was reported about 11:50 p.m. Friday at the H Street office of Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment Action.
Police said boxes of T-shirts inside burned, and the office interior was heavily damaged.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known, but Chula Vista police Lt. Gino Grippo said it appeared suspicious enough for police to work with fire investigators.
A website for the alliance described the statewide grass roots organization as being focused on issues including worker justice, housing and equitable neighborhood investment. The group supported the Proposition 10 initiative for rent control at the local level, but it failed at the ballot box on Tuesday.
