Oct. 27--Layoff insurance comes to N.C.

ASHEBORO -- SafetyNet, insurance that provides workers a lump-sum payment after an unexpected layoff, illness or injury, launched recently in North Carolina. Starting at less than $10 per month, SafetyNet's insurance lets customers insure their income and have greater peace-of-mind over their financial security. Applications receive a quick decision/approval and customers are paid out within a few days of approved claims. SafetyNet's fixed monthly premiums range from $4.50-$27. Approved claims pay from $1,500-$9,000. North Carolina workers can use SafetyNet funds from approved claims to cover any and all expenses after income loss, whether or not they have access to other unemployment and disability benefits.

Gathered Home event rescheduled

PITTSBORO -- The ribbon cutting and open house for Gathered Home Décor LLC, previously set for Nov. 2, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The public is invited to 697 Hillsboro St., Suite 102, Pittsboro, for the 11 a.m. ribbon cutting followed by an open house at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available after the ribbon cutting. The retail store offers unique home decor accessories, holiday items and refurbished and refreshed furniture. Polywood brings 380 jobs

TIMBERLAKE -- Outdoor furniture maker, Polywood, plans to create 380 jobs within five years and make a $35 million investment in Person County. U.S. Rep. Mark Walker, R-N.C., afterward released a statement, noting the news of our economy reaching a record high in job openings, while still more employment opportunities are being generated. Walker joined N.C. Gov. Roy Cooper, Person County Board of Commissioners Chair Tracey L. Kendrick, N.C. State Sen. Mike Woodward, Polywood CEO Doug Rassi and Polywood General Manager Dave Grider in Person County for the announcement.

Tractor Supply closed Thanksgiving

ASHEBORO -- Tractor Supply Co., the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, in observance of Thanksgiving. Tractor Supply, which operates more than 1,725 stores nationwide, including in Asheboro, with more than 28,000 team members, will reopen Friday, Nov. 23, at 6 a.m.

Construction jobs go up

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Forty-five states and the District of Columbia added construction jobs between September 2017 and September 2018, while 29 states and D.C. added construction jobs between August and September, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of Labor Department data. Florida added the most construction jobs during the past year (70,700 jobs, 14.8 percent). North Carolina added jobs between September 2017 and September 2018, increasing from 209,200 to 219,900, but lost jobs between August 2018 and September 2018, dipping from 220,000 to 219,900.
