Steven Selinsky Receives NAHU’s Highest Honor

DETRIOT, June 28 -- The National Association of Health Underwriters issued the following news release:

The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) recently honored Steven Selinsky as the recipient of the Harold R. Gordon Memorial Award at the 87th Annual Convention in Orlando, FL. This award is the health insurance industry's most meaningful and significant honor.

NAHU annually awards the industry's greatest accolade, the Harold R. Gordon Memorial Award, which recognizes the recipient as the industry's "Person of the Year." The recipient is selected by a committee of past award recipients that carefully reviews individuals nominated for their contributions made to the industry.

"Steven Selinsky is what we define as a pioneer: someone who is an innovator, sets high-standards with passion, and has integrity, dedication and ground-breaking ideas," said Janet Trautwein, CEO of NAHU. "His contribution to the advancement of NAHU has been invaluable. We are extremely pleased to present Steven with this award, and we look forward to many more years of benefiting from his wisdom and commitment to the health insurance industry."

Selinsky has been an enthusiastic NAHU member since 1997. He has generously served this association at every level, in many different positions, all with a gracious spirit and a big smile. Throughout his time with NAHU, Steven has been an effective and inspiring leader, serving as president of the Metro Detroit Association of Health Underwriters and as the Region 3 vice president. From there, he was elected to secretary on the NAHU Board of Trustees in 2006 and became president of NAHU in 2010. He also chaired NAHU's Education Foundation in 2015. Under his leadership, the foundation has grown by leaps and bounds and is now a well-known voice for NAHU and American consumers.

When the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010, the health insurance industry was in a state of shock and many NAHU members thought their careers were over. Steven was the perfect leader for this tumultuous time. He helped refocus NAHU's efforts and finances, and led by example when he kept working harder than ever to help his clients and fellow association members. He never stopped believing in NAHU and, for that, people believed in him.

Currently, Selinsky is the director of sales for Health Alliance Plan, where he has a distinguishable track record of sales success, development of key customer relationships, new product development, and expansion market operations. He previously managed the specialty product sales department at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan after directing the sales and marketing team for BeneSys, Inc.

Selinsky received his Bachelor's degree at Albion College where he studied speech communication and English. He lives in Detroit, Michigan, where he dedicates time to his number-one job as a devoted husband to his wife, Kerry, and father to their two wonderful children, Madison and Jake.
