Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on President Trump’s Joint Session Address to Congress
Congressional Documents & Publications
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today issued the following statement following President Donald Trump's joint address to Congress:
"The campaign is over; now it's time to govern. America needs a leader--not a reckless tweeter. The President cannot lead our country 140 characters at a time.
"40 days after his inauguration, there have been plenty of tweets by the President, but little legislative action. Despite campaign promises for a jobs bill, an infrastructure bill, and on trade, we have not seen any congressional action on these priorities. Hearing the President discuss these issues during his address tonight is a start, but the American people deserve action. I will work with anyone to grow our economy, rebuild our crumbling roads and bridges, and renegotiate bad trade deals like the North American Free Trade Agreement.
"Instead of taking action on these priorities, however, Republicans have made the reckless repeal of the Affordable Care Act their focus. The consequences of their actions would be devastating--it would kick millions of Americans off their health insurance, raise costs for families and seniors, and allow insurance companies to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions. It would also contribute to the loss of millions of jobs, including over 100,000 jobs in Michigan. We should work together to improve Obamacare - not repeal it and cause chaos."
