St. Louis duo charged with armed robbery in Granite City [The Telegraph, Alton, Ill.]

Oct. 31—EDWARDSVILLE — Two St. Louis men were charged Friday relating to a Sept. 29 armed robbery in Granite City.

Brian L. Doss Jr., 19, and Semaj S. Bass, 20, both of St. Louis, were each charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and armed robbery, both Class 1 felonies.

The cases were presented by the Grante City Police Department.

According to court documents, on Sept. 29 during an alleged armed robbery, the two fire an AK-style Mossberg Blaze 47 .22 caliber firearm in the direction of another person, striking her in the back.

Bail was set at $300,000 each.

In an unrelated case, an Alton man was charged Thursday with insurance fraud and disorderly conduct by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office.

Michael Spatafora II, 36, of Alton, was charged Oct. 27 with insurance fraud, a Class 2 felony, and disorderly conduct, a Class 4 felony.

The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff's Department.

According to court documents, on Sept. 10-21, 2021, Spatafora allegedly defrauded the Rockford Mutual Insurance Co. of more than $10,000 by making a false claim regarding a 2005 Woodchuck Model Hyroller 1200 wood chipper. On Sept. 10, 2021, he allegedly transmitted a false report to a Madison County sheriff's deputy that the theft of the wood chipper had occurred.

Bail was set at $50,000.

Terry L. Marmino, 44, of Alton was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 2 felony. The case was presented by the East Alton Police Department. According to court documents, on Oct. 28 Marmino allegedly had more than five grams of methamphetamine. Bail was set at $50,000.
