SOUTH DAKOTA CORN ADVOCACY HELPS RESTORE IMPORTANT CROP INSURANCE OPTION
States News Service
The following information was released by the South Dakota Corn Council & South Dakota Corn Growers Association:
Recently, Secretary Rollins stated that the U.S. Department of Agriculture would restore the 5% prevent plant buy-up option going forward. The buy-up coverage was removed this past December. The South Dakota Corn Growers Association, along with the South Dakota Soybean Association, South Dakota Farm Bureau and South Dakota Farmers Union together fought for reinstatement of this risk management tool. In South Dakota, the NDSU Agricultural Risk Policy Center estimated significant amounts of coverage at-risk for both corn and soybean acres (see below). SDCGA worked alongside other commodity groups to help ensure the return of this important option and we thank the Secretary and our Congressional delegation for their important work on behalf of South Dakota farmers.
