Soon-to-be retirees offered workshops on aging well and happily

March 12--MARSHFIELD -- With an eye of the next generation of retirees, the Marshfield Council on Aging will offer a 'Learn to Age Well' Open House on Saturday April from 9 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center at 230 Webster St.

The event is geared to those who are thinking of retirement and will include four workshops. The overall theme is that a satisfying retirement often results more easily from planning ahead and involves more than just having enough money.

The workshops will explore quality of life, personal happiness and strategies for living a varied and full life. There will be suggestions and game plans for developing an individual retirement plan .

The senior center staff also want to encourage people in their 50s or early 60s to learn more about the Marshfield senior center, the building's capabilities and atmosphere,and the wide range of activities.

The workshops are focusing on how to make the most of your future once your working life winds down. Suzanne Allmendinger, a volunteer at the Senior Center, said "The purpose is twofold--to provide pertinent information to those thinking of retirement and also to encourage the 'younger seniors' in our community to come into the Senior Center and check out what a vibrant place it is!"

From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. there will be a continental breakfast, tours, information tables and activities.

The workshops start at 10 a.m. and run until noon.

From 10 to 11 a.m.: "Maximizing Your Social Security Benefit" led by David Corman, president of Generations Asset Preservation in Braintree; and "Retirement Lifestyle Training 101" from the Active Aging Series developed by Nate Murray, managing partner of Visiting Angels and Kim Bennett, director of Visiting Angels in Marshfield.

From 11 a.m. to noon: "Downsizing" presented by Janet LaBerge, owner of Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap and Good Deeds Thrift Store in Pembroke and "Holistic Retirement and Estate Planning" by Mark Rowlette, president of South Shore Retirement Services in Hingham.
