Shepherd Insurance celebrates new Tell City Location with ribbon cutting

TELL CITY — Shepherd Insurance celebrated its continued investment in Tell City with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its newly renovated office at 419 Main Street, bringing together company leaders, employees, local business representatives and community members.

While Shepherd Insurance has grown into a multi-state company with hundreds of employees and dozens of offices, those attending the celebration emphasized that maintaining a small-town, family-oriented approach remains at the heart of the business.

Shepherd Insurance was founded by Dave Shepherd in Carmel, Indiana, nearly 50 years ago. What began in Shepherd's garage has since expanded throughout Indiana and into several other states.

Blair Brewer said the company provides personal and commercial insurance, employee benefits and financial services.

"I would definitely say the culture" is what makes Shepherd stand out, Brewer said. "Because it started as a family-owned company, even as we've grown, we've really kept that culture."

That family atmosphere was visible during the Tell City celebration, with employees traveling from other Shepherd offices to take part in the ribbon cutting.

For insurance producer Mindy Melton, the resources of a larger company combined with the feel of a local agency have made Shepherd a good fit.

Melton previously owned a smaller insurance agency before joining Shepherd and now works between the company's Tell City and Evansville offices.

"It's allowed me to still operate the business on a small, family-friendly foundation, but with a lot more resources," Melton said.

Shepherd's presence in Tell City dates to 2019, when Franzman Insurance merged with Shepherd. The local office provides access to a wide range of insurance services, including personal lines, commercial coverage, life insurance and employee benefits. Through an affiliated financial services company, clients can also access services such as financial planning and business retirement plans.

The ribbon cutting also highlighted the renovation of the Main Street property. Chamber representatives praised the investment in the building and the partnerships among local businesses that helped complete the work, including J.K. Forever Homes and others involved in the project.

Shepherd Insurance CEO Quinn Shepherd, son of founder Dave Shepherd, thanked Tell City for welcoming the company and its employees into the community.

"When we join agencies all over the states that we're in, we don't just try to buy agencies to buy agencies," Quinn said. "We really try to become part of a community."

He said Tell City has embraced Shepherd and its local team, and praised the newly remodeled office.

"Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve your community, to serve you as businesses, and also as individuals and families," he said.

Melton also thanked those who helped bring the renovation together, giving special recognition to J.K. Forever Homes, Courtney and members of her family and team who supported the project.

Founder Dave Shepherd also spoke during the celebration, reflecting on his own ties to southern Indiana. Born in Bedford, Shepherd said the region has always felt familiar to him and noted the company now has a strong presence throughout southern Indiana and neighboring areas.

"Our roots are here," he said, adding that communities such as Tell City, Evansville, Ferdinand, Dale, New Albany and Corydon have become an important part of Shepherd's growth.

He said the company wants not only to conduct business in the communities it serves but also to give back to them.

For the Tell City team, the newly renovated office represents another chapter in a local presence that has now lasted approximately seven years, backed by the resources of a company approaching its 50th anniversary.
