My name is Anthony Cook, though most people know me as "Doc." I am a VA-accredited service officer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Liberty, Kentucky, and a retired Army combat medic. I help Veterans, widows, and families navigate the VA system, which can often feel confusing and overwhelming. Over the years, I've seen how life-changing it can be when someone finally receives the benefits they've earned.

What I Do

As an accredited service officer, I assist with filing VA disability claims, helping surviving spouses apply for benefits, reviewing denied claims and appeals, identifying secondary conditions that may increase overall disability ratings, Aid and Attendance benefits, and VA healthcare eligibility.

Our Post also has a Benefits Advisor who can assist with VA home loan Certificates of Eligibility, obtaining military service records, homelessness resources, and guidance on using the G.I. Bill.

Why This Matters

Many Veterans and families assume they don't qualify or were told "no" once and never tried again. In many cases, that's not the end of the story. VA laws change, and eligibility expands over time.

This includes Veterans with conditions like hearing loss, back pain, PTSD, sleep apnea, or exposure-related illnesses.

Recent changes under the PACT Act have expanded benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic environments. Someone denied in the past, or who never applied, may qualify today.

What to Bring (If Available)

DD-214, VA decision letters, non-VA medical records, and a voided check for direct deposit.

For surviving spouse claims: death certificate, marriage license, and children's birth certificates.

These are not required for your first visit but can help speed up the process.

Final Thought

If you are unsure whether you qualify, don't assume the answer is no. Many claims are approved on a second look. Bring your paperwork and ask the questions. I'll help you figure it out.
