Sens. Blunt, McCaskill Request Answers From FEMA on Carter County Flood Damage
Targeted News Service (Press Releases)
WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 -- The office of Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Missouri, issued the following news release:
U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill are requesting additional information and answers to questions on federal assistance to help rebuild Carter County's public buildings following flooding earlier this year.
"Dozens of homes, businesses, and public facilities were damaged or destroyed, including the Carter County Courthouse and the Carter County Sheriff's Office, when the Current River overflowed its banks, inundating portions of Carter County and the city of Van Buren," wrote the Senators in a letter to FEMA's Region VII Administrator. "From a per capita standpoint, damage to Carter County's public facilities far exceeded damage to public facilities in any of the other 52 Missouri counties declared eligible for Public Assistance as a result of flooding this spring."
Following the flooding that occurred between April 28 and May 11 of this year, Blunt and McCaskill sent a letter to President Trump supporting Governor Eric Greitens' request for a disaster declaration for Missouri counties impacted by severe storms and historic flooding.
The Senators' letter asks FEMA to clear up conflicting information about Carter County's obligation to carry flood insurance.
