Senior Life Insurance Company employees focus on community

Dec. 24--Trying to be humble, Senior Life Insurance Company officials cannot help but brag about the volunteerism of their employees. Home office employees in Thomasville participated in the 2016 Community Outreach Program and they once again exceeded all expectations with the giving of time and donations.

Receiving $14,517 were 22 organizations in Thomasville.

This money was raised through numerous fundraising events during the year, including Jeans and Sneaker Day, Crazy Christmas Sweater Day and a Halloween costume contest.

Volunteers also gave more than 1,358 hours to the program, which serves in honor of Rosemary, Dale, Tammy, Ron, Sally and Daisy Powell. The Powell families, who founded Senior Life Insurance Company in 2000, are committed to helping others.

"As employees, we respectfully give our time and talents, recognizing that helping others allows us to turn dreams into reality for those we have served in our community," explained Vice President of Human Resources Chris Quick.

Employees participated in community service during events held at Thomasville Christmas parade, First Missionary Baptist Church, Gatlin Creek Baptist Church, Meigs United Methodist Church, Rose City week, Rose City Church of God, annual rose parade, Thomasville Rotary Club, Salvation Army Bell Ringers, food drive, nursing homes, Southwest Georgia Council on Aging, Southeastern Community Blood Center, United Way of Thomas County, Mt. Nebo Church, Bell Elementary School, Veterans Day parade, CPR and first aid training, First Baptist Church, Vashti Center, Relay for Life, Halcyon Thrift Store, Thomasville High School JROTC, Jerger School, Hands on Thomas County, Keep Thomas County Beautiful, First United Methodist Church and Scholars Academy.

Receiving 100 percent of the proceeds raised from the company's outreach efforts were Christmas parade, childhood cancer awareness, rose parade, Rose City Walk, Salvation Army, Susan G. Komen -- breast cancer awareness, Southwest Georgia Council on Aging, Thomas County Central High School cheerleaders, Thomasville law enforcement members, United Way of Thomas County, Brookwood School, Oak Street Mission, Needham House (Salvation Army), Jack O' Lantern Run, Thomas County schools, Emergency Medical Services Day, The Gathering Church -- Haiti trip, Willowhead Missionary Baptist Church, Thomas County DFACS, Thomas County High School FFA, YMCA Thomasville, Thomas City Middle School -- special education, Camellia Gardens of Life Care, Glenn-Mor Nursing Home and Thomasville Health and Rehab.
