Senior Expo & Health Fair returns to Logan Friday

Logan Daily News, The (OH)

LOGAN — Making its return to Logan on Friday, April 21 is the Logan Daily News Senior Expo and Health Fair. The event, which showcases the many resources available to seniors in the area, was first held in 2019, but then was shelved for two years due to COVID-19, before being resumed last year.

According to the U.S. Census estimate for July 1, 2022, Hocking County has a population of 27,858 people, of whom almost one in five – 19.8% – are age 65 or older.

This year's expo will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and like last year's event, will be at the Scenic Hills Senior Center, 187 S. Spring St. in Logan. Admission and parking are free, and a free lunch and snacks will be served. To make access to the event even more convenient, Logan Public Transit will be holding its monthly free ride day on Friday, so a ride with LPT to and from the expo will cost nothing.

The presenting sponsor for this year's event is the Hocking County Veterans Service Commission. Making a return appearance this year will be Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, whose Community Health Programs will be offering free screenings for lipids, blood pressure and glucose.

Around 30 other vendors and organizations will also be taking part, each of which has helpful information to share with local seniors. They include National Telemed Solutions, a provider of telemedicine services; Pickaway Manor, which offers a rehabilitation, skilled nursing and assisted living; the Buckeye Hills Regional Council, whose Regional Advisory Council (RAC) serves as a liaison between older adults and their local county councils on aging; FairHope Hospice & Palliative Care; Crestview Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Services; Humana, a health insurance provider; Reflections Independent & Assisted Living; the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD); Air Evac Lifeteam (ambulance services); Arbors at Carroll nursing home; Country Lane Gardens Rehabilitation & Nursing Center; Hocking College; Wagner Insurance Agency; Altercare Integrated Health Services; the Hocking County Health Department; Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action (HAPCAP); W&S (life insurance, investment for retirement); First Settlement Physical Therapy; Shrivers Hospice; The Ridge at Lancaster (senior living and care); Hospice of Central Ohio; The Laurels Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; Goodcare by CPCI (medical equipment supplier); Home Helpers Home Care; OhioHealth at Home; and Promedica (health care).

Logan Daily News General Manager and Advertising Director Brenda Carney, who helped organize the event, noted that once again this year, the newspaper will be giving away two $100 gift cards in a drawing (must be present to win). "There will also be dozens of door prizes, because all of these vendors will contribute something that we'll give away," she added.

Carney said the annual senior expo and health fair held in March in New Lexington by the Daily News' sister paper The Perry County Tribune drew "the largest crowd we've had there" so far, and she's hoping the Logan event will show a similar growth trend.

"There are so many valuable resources available in this area for seniors, whether those are provided by businesses, non-profits or government agencies," Carney said. "The expo and health fair gives our local seniors a chance to learn about what's out there for them, and to do it in one day, at one place."
