New law will restore fairness and transparency in dental insurance practices
OKLAHOMA CITY -Legislation authored by SenatorKristen Thompson, R-Edmond,that will restore fairness and transparency in dental insurance practices has been signed into law by the governor.
Senate Bill 1942closes a longstanding loophole in dental insurance policies by ensuring insurers cannot set prices for procedures they do not cover or reimburse. The new law is designed to strengthen patient choice by allowing dentists and patients to determine the best course of care without undue interference from insurance companies.
"This is a commonsense, free-market reform that puts patients and providers back in control of health care decisions," Senator Thompson said. "For too long, insurers have been able to dictate pricing on services they don't even cover. That practice drives up costs, limits competition and places unnecessary burdens on both patients and independent providers. Senate Bill 1942 puts an end to that. I appreciate Governor Stitt for signing this measure and the House bill author Speaker Pro Tem Anthony Moore for helping get this across the finish line.
"By eliminating this loophole, we are leveling the playing field for independent dentists, who play a vital role in delivering care in communities across the state. This ensures they can continue to operate and serve patients without unfair restrictions."
The measure reinforces a patient-centered approach to care while promoting transparency and competition within the dental insurance market.
