SENATOR MARSHALL: PRESIDENT TRUMP'S MAXIMUM PRESSURE ON IRAN IS WORKING

States News Service

The following information was released by Kansas Senator Roger Marshall:

Senator Marshall Joins Newsmax and Fox Business

U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas),joined Ed Henry on Newsmax and David Asman on Fox Business to discuss the ongoing Iran ceasefire negotiations, the latest in the Senate, and his assessment of Kevin Warsh's confirmation hearing to serve as the next Federal Reserve Chairman.

On Iran military action:

"I think we have our foot on the neck of Iran, and it's time to finish the job. Look, this is the time to stand behind our president, behind our military. Could you imagine Iran with a nuclear weapon? If Iran had a nuclear weapon, gasoline would be $10 a gallon, and for generations to come, Americans' lives would be threatened. So it sounds like the latest breaking news is that Iran is capitulating. And not surprisingly, they have two different factions there. It's really hard to negotiate with these irrational, emotional religious zealots. I think that's what you're seeing right here. But the President wants to get to peace as soon as he can. But Iran can never, never, ever have a nuclear weapon."

"We are locked and loaded, ready to go. We have our foot on Iran's neck right now. The President is always negotiating. When the President walks in the room, he's negotiating. There's a camera in front of him, he's negotiating. He knows he's negotiating with irrational religious zealots that's just next to impossible. So they need to know he's serious, and he's dead serious. Whether they need a day or two, okay. If this turns into weeks, I think that's when we're going to start getting antsy. But we also have this embargo working as well, the blockade, and we're literally starving them both financially and they can't feed themselves either, very long."

On the SAVE America Act and DHS funding:

"What we need to do today is fund DHS we're going to run out of funding very soon, in a matter of weeks. What Senator Cruz is describing is something I've been pushing for since at least last summer, but that's going to have to be a chapter three of a reconciliation bill right now. Time is of the essence. We need to get this skinny bill done across the finish line to keep Americans safe. That's my biggest priority keep Americans safe. Let's fund DHS as soon as possible, and then let's get to work on these other ones. I agree all those things are important. I want to get it done. But what he's describing will take four to six months to get done, if it can ever get to a success point."

On Fed Chair nominee Kevin Warsh:

"I thought Kevin was very poised. He was very confident. I think he's going to be the steady hand that we need we need a breath of fresh air, somebody with a little bit more confidence and a positive reputation. I think he's going to do a great job. He's a little bit of an inflation hawk, and that's going to be fine. You've got to the president wants us to work on lowering rates, and I do too, but we can't let inflation back in the game either. I think he's going to be a steady hand that President Trump and Wall Street know can get the job done."

"I come from a little bit of a banking background I think we need to try to return more power back to those local community banks whenever possible. The Fed needs to stay focused on their job: figure out interest rates, create price stability, and look at the jobs market. Sometimes they make it really overly complicated. I'm a simple country doctor, not an economist. But certainly, when I saw Joe Biden go from spending $5 trillion to $7 trillion overnight, started doing more quantitative easing, printing dollars guess what? That inflation was not going to go away soon, and it doesn't take a PhD from Harvard to understand that."

"I'm impressed with Kevin Warsh. He wants to stay focused on very simple issues: price stability and jobs. And that's really it. If we get price stability, if we can bring down inflation, we keep people employed, then we're going to have a successful November as well. Again, the President is negotiating to get him across the finish line, and it would be well and good for Republican senators to come together and support the President's nominee. I think this is just a no brainer. We got to get out of our own way sometimes."
