WASHINGTON, DC - Senator James Lankford (R-OK) last night appeared on EWTN's News Nightly to discuss John McCain's cancer diagnosis and its impact on Senate legislation, and the healthcare discussions taking place in the Senate. EWTN is a global Catholic television network and News Nightly is its daily news program.
Excerpt:
On whether the Senate can pass healthcare reform:
I do feel confident that we can do it, I do not feel confident that it can happen within the next week. There are a few details that are still getting worked out, but everybody is trying to work towards getting the final solution here to make sure that it is correct and it's our best possible option, not only to take care of people that are in poverty, [and those] that have the greatest needs, but also to provide reduced rates for everyone that is actually buying on the open market, as well. So, those become two major issues to make sure that we're balancing.
