School board approves agenda

Stuttgart Daily Leader (AR)

Nov. 29--The Stuttgart Public School District Board of Directors met Tuesday with nine items to discuss under new business and a student discipline hearing.

The board voted to renew its board liability insurance with the Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA).

The board had to approve new election dates since elections for school board members can no longer be held in September and the board voted to hold elections in May. The board also approve the ASBA recommendation for the election policy.

The board voted to approve the legal transfer of one student from DeWitt to Stuttgart, contingently enrolled due to a sibling preference.

The board also voted to employ Annette Lee as a special education paraprofessional, effective Nov. 15; Laverne Adair, as a secondary special education teacher, effective Nov. 15; and Kiana Hawkins as a Park Avenue Elementary paraprofessional, effective Nov. 15.

A Stuttgart Junior High School student was expelled for the remainder of the school year, however, the reason for the expulsion was not disclosed as of press time.

The student had already been allowed into the school district's Another Chance Program during a previous expulsion hearing, so Superintendent Rick Gales said the student had "already been given a chance" and the school's policy was that the student be expelled this time.

The school district's Thanksgiving break is Nov. 20-24. The board adjourned after voting to approve minutes from the Oct. 10 meeting and financial statements.
