Schmitt tops Rettig to take 99th Assembly District seat
Times Herald-Record (Middletown, NY)
Nov. 07--Republican Colin Schmitt defeated Democrat Matthew Rettig to win the 99th District Assembly seat that opened up with James Skoufis' run for state Senate.
Schmitt, current chief of staff for the Town of New Windsor, will represent a district that includes nine towns in OrangeCounty: Blooming Grove, Chester, Cornwall, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Highlands, New Windsor, Wawayanda and Woodbury.
The district also includes the Town of Stony Point in Rockland County.
While Rettig supported creation of a single-payer health insurance system and codifying abortion rights in state law, Schmitt opposed both policies. Schmitt also called for freezing property taxes for homeowners 62 and over and term limits for legislators.
