SC woman arrested after making false insurance claims, SLED says

A Greenville woman was arrested after fraudulently claiming thousands of dollars worth of damage to her personal belongings, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Kelsey Michelle Moore, 25, was charged with presenting a false claim for insurance — value more than $2,000, but Less than $10,000 and three counts of Forgery — Value Less Than $10,000 — according to a news release.

The charges stem from April 16, 2026, when investigators say Moore submitted false claims for damage to her clothing, shoes and personal items to her insurance company, USAA.

Moore told the insurer the damage was caused by a faulty water heater in her apartment, according to an arrest warrant.

Investigators determined that a water heater error had never occurred after speaking with Moore’s property manager, the warrant said.

In support of her claim, Moore provided USAA with three receipts she’d doctored from Uptown Dry Cleaning, including one for $3,985.60 and two for $2,321.40, according to the warrant.

Moore received a total of $4,916.58 from USAA, the warrant said.

She was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center.
